We seem to be reliving the early 1980s here...with a Mary Decker Slaney post yesterday and today's about the 1984 Women's Olympic Marathon Winner Joan Benoit Samuelson. She's still very much a competitive marathoner, and ran yesterday's Chicago Marathon for numerical reasons. Sunday's date of 10/10/10 seemed destined to produce something good, and a sub 2:46 would have qualified her for the 2012 Olympic Marathon trials, her fifth. After running the first 10K in 37:32 and 13.1 in 1:21.09, she finished in 2:47.50 - making her the fastest 50+ women's marathoner in history! And her hopes of a 5th Olympic trial are not over yet...
