So the results are in from yesterday's Safe Journey/Scarecrow 5K in Fairport. http://www.robertstech.com/run/results/sc5_10.htm
There were 510 participants, 216 women and 294 men (or thereabouts - there were 2 "unknowns"). I finished 202 overall with a time of 26:43, putting me in the top 40%. Here are my stats: 49th woman finisher overall; 12th out of 30 in the 40-44 age group; 18 out of 59 in the 40-49 age group.
Looking at the results, I would have to say I've got mixed feelings. I'm happy to finally be under 27 minutes, so that's a plus. But my first mile was 8:20, meaning my last two miles were much, much slower. Pacing myself on the roads is a challenge because I'm so used to the treadmill doing it for me. It was a flat course on a beautiful day, so maybe my time should have been closer to 26:00? I think I must have been more like 9:00 miles over 2 and 3. I forgot my watch (D'oh!) and maybe having had that I would have sped up a little....any thoughts on pacing greatly appreciated!!
Next up: Reliant "Moore than a Race" 5K next Sunday. And watching the Marine Corps Marathon in DC! And preparing for the Newark Turkey Day 5 miler...fingers crossed for good weather for all 3 events!!! Feel free to comment on your upcoming races, too!
Update: more accurate results here.
Well, I don't much about this "bloggin' thing", but you are doing an amazing job at the "runnin' thing".
ReplyDeleteSo, if I had to have a blog, I guess I could call it "happy to finish, slowly". So far, my races haven't been about time, but finishing.
I leave for SF on Friday for the first 1/2 marathon and am continuing the focus on finishing.
Will let you know next week
Awesome job Shannon!! I cannot wait to watch you and Beth run the Marine Corps 10K and my friend Bethany run the Marathon! You guys are doing an awesome job - and my hats off to you for running a 1/2 marathon! I'm still struggling to get over 4.5 miles running, but knowing friends are running farther is a big inspiration to me!
